Carolyn Carr: Snake Nation Curated by Cathy Byrd and Staurt Keeler as part of the Le Flash program.
October 24 - Ongoing
Carolyn Carrs' new work, Snake Nation, is a display of flags along Peters Street that speaks to the early history of Castleberry Hill by marking buildings that had once been home to brothels. On the surface Carr maintains -in the painting of the flags- an interest in formal compositions (a visual paring down of ideals) while highlighting places where, as early as the 1800s, activities of ill repute thrived. And on occasion this particular piece of raucous history, in the area once known as Snake Nation, is still... present.

Spanierman Modern
This exhibition was organized by the Gavlak Gallery.
Spanierman Modern is pleased to announce the opening on March 6, 2008 of Carolyn Carr, an
exhibition of abstract paintings and large-format works on paper
featuring looping and winding lines that intersect, interlock, or pass
in and around each other, sometimes seemingly with a life of their
own. The works are in a monochromatic palette that, while new for this
Atlanta-based artist is nonetheless in keeping with her continued
evolution toward an increasingly reductive and restrained approach in
which every gesture and form has weight and significance. [Press release continues here] READ REVIEW by Joan Baum ARTWORK PHOTOS
